This summer, Camp Vohokase welcomed another incredible group of young men for a nine-day leadership experience they’ll never forget. Our Seniors from Brockton, MA, Juniors from Dayton, OH, Sophomores from Plant City, FL, and Freshmen from Lawrence, MA came together for a week packed with hard work, skill-building, and plenty of fun.
Guiding them through it all was Matt Light, who once again attended and led the
entire camp experience. His steady presence and commitment to mentoring the campers set the tone for nine days of growth, and we even had the chance to celebrate his birthday together—a highlight that made this year especially memorable. The entire Light Family, Hayden Lewter, Camp Vohokase Director; Troy Eden, COO; and Brian Rehmert, Project Manager also had a hand in making the camp successful!
We kicked things off at an arcade, where the guys bonded over games and laughter, followed by a hearty welcome dinner at Merchant House. As the rest of the group arrived, we jumped right into our camp project—installing split rail fencing around the treehouse. The work was rewarded with relaxing pond time and evenings gathered around a roaring campfire.
The days that followed were filled with opportunities to learn and grow. Twelve Points Academy, our Corporate Partner, joined us to teach financial literacy, complete with a challenging case study. We held a moving Sunday service with Denis Light, and later welcomed former special operator Jesse Boettcher, who shared his knowledge of animal trapping.
Of course, camp wouldn’t be complete without some high-energy adventures—paintball, dirt bikes, and a friendly BB shooting competition with Bill Light. We also gave back to the community by partnering with the City of Greenville, helping lay concrete and build a structure. Career exploration took us to Quiet Harmony Elk Ranch and Spencer Landscaping, where campers learned firsthand about unique and rewarding professions.
Along the way, we enjoyed a trip to the Greenville City Pool, tested our teamwork (and appetites) during the pizza
challenge, and wrapped it all up with a heartfelt graduation ceremony to celebrate the Brockton, Massachusetts senior camper’s growth and commitment.
But Camp Vohokase is about more than just nine days in the summer. Each year builds upon the last, preparing these young men to step into leadership roles both within the program and in their own communities. The skills they gain—discipline, responsibility, teamwork, and confidence—become tools they carry back home to serve as role models among their peers.
We are deeply grateful to our sponsors, volunteers, and staff whose generosity and dedication make this transformative experience possible. Their support ensures that every camper has the chance to grow, learn, and build friendships that last a lifetime.
From the first day to the final goodbye, Camp Vohokase lead up to its mission of building leaders, fostering connections, and creating lasting memories. We can’t wait to see how these young men carry the lessons they’ve learned into the future—and we’re already looking forward to welcoming a new group next summer.
