Who We Are
The weekends are meant to be spent in the great outdoors…don’t you agree?! That is where you could find us, in the thick of the woods, on Saturday, April 24th when we kicked off the first annual Rhode Island Youth Wild Turkey Hunt! Ten area youth who received the top scores of an essay contest, which focused on the importance of a healthy self-image, were invited to participate in the hunt. No hunting experience was necessary to apply since we had some of the top notched hunting mentors on hand to make sure these youth hunters were following safety guidelines, learning about the important role hunting plays in conservation, and of course, enjoying the thrill of hunting that gobbling Tom!
The Darke County class is local to our Ohio headquarters and they have an advantage when it comes to community service opportunities. Each month in the winter, the Light Foundation holds Trail Tribe Days, which is an opportunity for locals to give back to the community through cleaning up the Foundation’s campground. This made for the perfect opportunity to get our Camp Vohokase young men involved in helping prepare our camp for a busy year.
For the Light Foundation, the Ohio Youth Wild Turkey Hunt kicks off annual programming that is filled with fun, education, and focuses on building leadership skills in young kids. This past weekend we welcomed sixteen young hunters, mostly beginners, to our Darke County facility, Chenoweth Trails, to spend the entire weekend completely in the outdoors!
