The Buckeye Blast Returns for Another Incredible Year at Black Wing Shooting Center
June 2, 2026

The Buckeye Blast returned on May 12, 2026, at Black Wing Shooting Center in Delaware, Ohio, continuing to build on the momentum of its inaugural year as one of The Light Foundation’s signature fundraising events. Co-founded by Matt Light, New England Patriots Hall of Famer, and his wife Susie Light, the event once again brought together shooting enthusiasts, community leaders, sports fans, and supporters from across the region for a full day of competition, entertainment, and impact.

This year’s Buckeye Blast was proudly presented by Ralph & Phyllis Brumbaugh, whose extraordinary generosity and continued commitment to The Light Foundation were felt in every aspect of the event. Their support continues to elevate The Buckeye Blast and plays a vital role in its continued growth and success.

From the moment guests arrived, The Buckeye Blast offered a dynamic and interactive experience designed to engage attendees at every level. Under the main tent, guests enjoyed fresh coffee and donuts from Parlor Donuts while exploring a wide variety of activities and attractions. Outside, attendees took part in axe throwing, cornhole, and multiple games of chance, including playing card raffles featuring firearms from SIG Sauer and Smith & Wesson.

One of the most popular attractions of the day was the “mystery safe” raffle, featuring a safe provided by Champion Safe Company, packed with more than $20,000 worth of prizes available to one lucky winner. Guests also enjoyed interactive exhibitions featuring Double Play Hunting Preserve, River’s Edge Knife Company, Columbus Equipment Company, and Prosperity Promotions. The Stogies Cigar Lounge and a full silent auction added even more ways for guests to participate and support the mission.

The tournament officially kicked off with remarks from Matt Light, welcoming guests to the second annual Buckeye Blast and emphasizing the importance of community, generosity, and impact. The first wave of shooters took to the course at 10:30 AM following safety briefings, with the day beginning in powerful fashion.

Throughout the day, guests rotated through sporting clays competition, side games, and interactive shooting experiences, including 5-stand challenges, indoor range activities, machine gun experiences, and a flamethrower photo opportunity. The energy remained high from start to finish, fueled by friendly competition and a lively atmosphere across the entire property.

Lunch was provided by Yabo’s Tacos, with volunteer meals generously supplied by Jet’s Pizza. Beverage partners Pepsi and Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits kept guests refreshed throughout the day, while live music from 5 Band added to the energy and experience.

A major highlight of the day came during the official program when Matt Light recognized the incredible growth of The Buckeye Blast and thanked the supporters, partners, and volunteers who make the event possible. Special appreciation was extended to the Buckeye Blast Committee: Ralph Brumbaugh, Brad Jennings, Steve Bruns, Russ Kessler, Daren Hiatt, Mike Rieman, Brent Garland, Justin Gonzales, Chris Montgomery, and Bobby Carpenter.

Matt also recognized Joe and Kayla King of Black Wing Shooting Center, the security team led by Brad Jennings and Justin Gonzales, and more than 70 volunteers from Lowe’s Home Improvement, coordinated by Store Manager Brian Aliff. Additional gratitude was given to Light Foundation staff and event captains who managed registration, raffles, hospitality, course operations, and logistics throughout the day.

The success of The Buckeye Blast was made possible through the generosity of its sponsors at every level.

At our Target Sponsor level, we extend sincere thanks to Eric and Carey Rose and The Rose Family Foundation.

At our Gold Sponsor level, we recognize Jon Coomer Investment Management.

Our Hot Shot Sponsors included Tim and Paula Aydt and Columbus Equipment Company.

Our Bronze Sponsors included Kessler and Ballenger, Team Holowicki, Preferred Living, Smiley Dental Group, The CREC Private Equity Real Estate Company, and Statewide Concrete Pumping.

We are also grateful to Matthew McClimon, our official Lanyard Sponsor, whose support helped keep the event running smoothly throughout the day.

In addition, we extend special recognition to our in-kind partners whose generosity helped shape The Buckeye Blast experience, including Champion Safe Company, Smith & Wesson, Mossberg, Federal, Remington, Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits, Atlantis Sportswear, American Rebel, Arrowhead Tactical, Financial Providence Group, Troy Sunshade, Double Play Hunting Preserve, and others whose contributions were instrumental to the event’s success.

One of the most meaningful parts of The Buckeye Blast remains its connection to The Light Foundation’s youth programs. During the evening program, campers and counselors from Camp Vohokase, Timber Frame Leadership Camp, and other initiatives shared powerful testimonies about the life-changing impact of the organization. These moments continue to serve as a reminder of why the mission matters and the importance of investing in young leaders. Mora Menzie was also on hand to sing the National Anthem.

As the day transitioned into an evening celebration, guests enjoyed cocktails and Garage Beer, appetizers from The Capital Grille, and a headline performance from country music star Tyler Farr, returning for another unforgettable show.

The event concluded with awards, raffles, and recognition of top performers across multiple categories, bringing a celebratory close to an impactful day.

Proceeds from The Buckeye Blast directly support The Light Foundation’s youth leadership programs, which focus on developing R.E.A.L. (Responsible, Ethical, Accountable Leaders). Since 2001, The Light Foundation has remained committed to empowering young people with the skills, confidence, and character needed for lifelong success.

The continued growth of The Buckeye Blast reflects the strength of this community and the shared belief in investing in the next generation. With the extraordinary support of partners like Ralph & Phyllis Brumbaugh, the event continues to expand its reach, deepen its impact, and build toward an even brighter future.
