The inaugural Buckeye Blast, held on May 13, 2025, at Black Wing Shooting Center in Delaware, Ohio, marked a significant milestone for The Light Foundation. Co-founded by Matt Light, New England Patriots Hall of Famer, and his wife Susie, the event brought together more than 300 shooting enthusiasts, professionals from all backgrounds, sports fans, and community supporters for a day filled with competition, camaraderie, and celebration.
The centerpiece of the day was a sporting clay tournament, welcoming both novice and experienced shooters to engage in friendly competition in the scenic outdoor setting of Black Wing. Beyond the tournament, the event offered live entertainment from country star Tyler Farr, exceptional food and drinks, and countless opportunities to connect, creating an electric and welcoming atmosphere for all attendees.

A major highlight of the event was the entertainment, headlined by country music chart-topper Tyler Farr. We were also thrilled by a performance from 5 Band during the day. The excitement continued with appearances by a host of celebrity guests, including former pro football players Maurice Clarett, Matt Finkes, Bobby Carpenter, Wes Martin, Jake Ballard, and Jim Lachey; UFC/MMA fighters Matt Brown and Matt Mitrione; and MLB stars and Buck Commanders Tombo Martin and Jon Niese.
Under our Exhibition Tent, guests enjoyed an array of engaging attractions, from premium cigars, exclusive event merchandise, and even a mobile forgery demonstration. Our live and silent auctions featured an incredible selection of items and experiences, and the raffles were a huge hit. One of the most exciting fundraisers was the mystery safe, courtesy of Champion Safe Company, which was packed with $20,000 worth of surprise prizes. Attendees also had plenty of side games to enjoy throughout the day too!
Perhaps the most meaningful moments came when former Light Foundation campers took the stage to share how the organization has changed their lives. Thank you to Marius French and Jay-Quan Skates (Camp Vohokase) and Mora Menzie (Timber Frame Leadership Camp/Youth Wild Turkey Hunt) for making the trip to Delaware,Ohio to inspire us with your stories.
We also owe a huge debt of gratitude to our incredible volunteers. Special thanks to Brian Last Name? for organizing the Lowe’steam, and to Jesse Boettcher and his sons for their invaluable help with setup and security. Your hard work, enthusiasm, and commitment helped the event shine.
