Supporting Growth: A Winter Update on the Camp Vohokase Senior Class
January 22, 2025

We want to take a moment to share an inspiring update about the amazing progress happening in our cultural leadership program, Camp Vohokase. This winter, we had the privilege of meeting with Milton, Jarred, Gaethan, and Rajon, the senior class of Camp Vohokase. The time together was focused on one key mission: supporting these young men as they continue on their journey toward success, both in their academics and their personal growth.

Our visit was a blend of reflection and action. We took time to address their challenges, celebrate the strides they’ve made, and set clear, actionable steps for how we can continue to help them grow in the months to come.

We began by discussing strategies to provide the campers with the support they need to succeed. A key part of this conversation was about how we can help them feel more connected to the school community, including connecting with counselors and adjusting schedules to ensure they are enrolled in classes that spark their interest. By tailoring their schedules, we hope to encourage more engagement, self-expression, and a sense of belonging in the academic environment.

We are always focusing on reinforcing accountability and consistency, so we ensured they had the resources necessary to stay on track academically. Together, we reinforced the importance of consistent attendance and completing assignments on time. These foundational habits not only help keep them on top of their studies but also set them up for success in life beyond school. It was an encouraging moment as we discussed how far they’ve come in terms of personal accountability—and how this will be crucial as they transition to life after graduation.

In response to their requests for extra academic help, we discussed the possibility of tutoring and other forms of academic assistance. We understand the balancing act these students face—juggling schoolwork, preparing for life after graduation, and participating in the camp experience. By working to coordinate additional academic resources, we aim to help them maintain a strong academic record without feeling overwhelmed.

As we left Brockton High School, we couldn’t help but feel an overwhelming sense of pride. The journey these campers are on is not without its challenges, but they are each showing tremendous growth. Each student we met with has a unique story and set of obstacles to overcome, but through it all, we see resilience, determination, and a growing sense of responsibility.

The work we’re doing with these young men—guiding them, challenging them, and supporting them—is having a profound impact. And none of this would be possible without the unwavering support of our donors. Your generosity enables us to continue providing opportunities for youth like Milton, Jarred, Gaethan, and Rajon to succeed. You are helping to shape the future of these young men, one step at a time.

As we move forward, we are committed to ensuring these students have the guidance, resources, and support they need to finish strong and take ownership of their futures. With your continued help, we know they will continue to make progress and achieve the great things they’re capable of.

Thank you for being a part of this journey with us.
