What an incredible weekend in the white mountains at Twin Mountain KOA! I’m so thankful for Brad and Bex Hare, the owners of Twin Mountain KOA, who once again welcomed the Light Foundation and our Camp Vohokase kids for a weekend of bonding and outdoor fun.
We started out with a pizza dinner Friday evening where our most recent Camp Vohokase graduates from Gloucester, MA were able to share their stories from the last four years in camp with our incoming freshmen from the Passamaquoddy Tribe near Princeton, ME.
On Saturday morning, we gathered at the base of Mt. Willard across from Mt. Washington Hotel where our intent was to summit Mt.Willard. We instead found our way on a much more challenging route to the top of Mt. Avalon with a total elevation of 3,442 feet. It was quite the accomplishment for the group. We were able to fit in a bit of cold-water swimming in a small stream, which was a highlight for those brave enough to give it a try!
We ended Saturday with a bit of grilling and ice cream courtesy of Brad and his amazing team.
On Sunday, we enjoyed a pancake breakfast. Joey, a Gloucester graduate, attempted to beat his previous record of 17 pancakes before tapping out at ten. His record of 17 still stands as the number to beat here at Twin Mountain KOA!
My favorite part of the trip was getting to watch the interaction between the graduates and freshmen as they got to know each other. I’m extremely proud of our three most recent graduates and the hard work they put into our program. They are an incredible example of what Camp Vohokase is all about and they will be missed! The freshmen class will enter camp this summer with the knowledge shared from our Gloucester crew and some good stories of years past.
