Since 2008, the Light Foundation has given more than $70,000 in scholarships to students residing in Massachusetts and Darke County, Ohio!
The four recent graduates chosen are each receiving a $1,000 scholarship to help them further their education. And the winners this year have big plans:
Jorie Lee McDermott graduated from Arcanum High School and will be attending Sinclair Community College where she will be pursuing an Associates in Science degree to then continue to study Astrophysics.
Jenna Leigh Hughes graduated from Greenville High School and will be attending Miami University where she will be double majoring in Education and French.
Kaylee Braun graduated from Versailles High School and will be attending Bowling Green State University where she will be pursuing a degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders.
Harrison Plessinger graduated from Greenville High School and will be attending The Ohio State University where he will be pursuing a degree in Journalism.
It was an honor to meet these young people who know what they want and are taking every effort to go after it. With the rising costs of education these days, we are pleased to give back to these students. It would not be possible for us to do so without the help of our community.
Our Foundation received 40 applications. A committee reviewed the applications and considered the many different aspects of each student’s high school achievements. Some of the areas that were considered were academic achievement, community service, job responsibility, and the content of their answers on the application. Eligible students must fill out the scholarship application, which is posted at the beginning of the year and due by May 1.
