Youth Turkey Hunt

Youth WILD Turkey Hunt

2019 Hunt is April 12-14

Applications are due by March 1, 2019

The Youth Turkey Hunt offers young residents of Darke County, which encompasses Matt Light’s hometown of Greenville, the opportunity to kick off hunting season with a weekend adventure at Chenoweth Trails. As an avid hunter himself, Matt saw an opportunity for teens to understand the thrill of the hunt and make memories to last a lifetime. Young hunters from ages 12-17 must write an essay to apply to the program and must complete training and get a hunting license to participate.

The applicants selected are paired with guides and stay in the yurts at Chenoweth Trails from Friday night until midday Sunday to build friendships, indulge in great food, and learn the joy of the hunt. Applicants for the 2019 event, which is commemorating over a decade of the program,  are required to write an essay about how having a hobby has affected their life.

Though not everyone goes home with a Tom, the young hunters continue to rave about the experience, with four-time participant Devin Kuhbander remarking, “I have made some great friends, learned from experienced guides, and although my hunts have not all been successful, I have had fun every year.”
